Forming sentences with enhanced comprehension and expanding vocabulary
As the little ones grow towards their third year, children become expressive and better at comprehension because they continuously learn new words, and understand and form more complex sentences with clearer grammar, although sometimes they still make mistakes. Children will learn to manipulate their choice of words, tones and manners to express themselves and communicate with others better. At this time, their speeches are adult-like. Parents can continue to talk with children in English and provide them with different English resources to facilitate their language learning.
By the age of 3, children will have discovered how to continue their sentences with the word ‘and’. While parents are telling stories with different reading strategies, such as paired reading and role-playing, to stimulate their child's language development and prepare for early literacy, children themselves have already started to figure out how to tell a story on their own.
